After three long years, 2020 is finally here, and we can’t wait to defeat Trump at the ballot box! But to save our democracy, we know we’ve also got to flip the Senate and hold the House in November. In 2018, Indivisible Charlottesville volunteers wrote over 20,000 postcards to voters and dramatically increased Democratic turnout in our House district. Now, we are taking that incredible energy to races across the nation to help flip the Senate with peer-to-peer texting! We’ll be joining the national “Payback Project” to engage voters across nine target states to take action with Indivisibles in their area and mobilize to defeat their Trump-enabling Senators. #TextingIsTheNewPostcards
Why texting?
1. Texting is new and exciting! We're working with National Indivisible to get the same texting app that is used by organizations like Vote.org and at least one presidential campaign.
2. Texting is powerful! You can reach hundreds of voters per hour and the system automatically gathers data.
3. Texting is easy! All you need is your laptop (or a tablet with an external keyboard). We'll walk you through everything you need to know. Once you get set up and comfortable with the program, you can start texting from your phone!
4. Texting is fun! We’ll be gathering in the back room at Beer Run for a snack and beverage and a chance to mingle with Indivisible friends while reaching out to voters.
FAQs:
“Do I need to worry about my privacy?” No! The platform we are using does not use your personal phone number, and voters do not see your last name.
“I don't know what to say.” That's OK! The texting platform automatically fills in the initial outgoing message, and you’ll have dozens of pre-written scripts.
“I really love writing POSTCARDS. Can I still do that?” Yes! We’ll some have some postcards from Postcards to Voters as well! There’ll be something for everyone. But don't forget to BRING YOUR LAPTOP OR TABLET IF YOU WANT TO TEXT!
